Eleanor G. Ball

10/26/1919 – 5/3/2023
Mable Eleanor Ball, 103, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on May 3, 2023. She was born on October 26, 1919, in Brooklyn, New York to Herbert and Mable Gesregan. She was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her four siblings and attended the University of Pittsburgh where she was an education major. Ellie, as she was fondly known by her family and friends, met her husband, Robert E. Ball, Sr. while attending college. They married in 1942 and raised four children, Robert E. Ball Jr., Barbara Ball Gadkowski, David Ball, and Christopher Ball.
Ellie taught nursery school for many years. Teaching children was her lifelong passion, and she did so well into her 80’s where she taught the afterschool program at Sharon Methodist Church in Poplar Branch, North Carolina. Her hobbies included painting, sculpting, gardening, and traveling, all of which she did throughout her life well into her 80’s. She was a devout Christian, and her church family was a very important part of her life. Ellie was a member of many churches throughout the country during her lifetime. She loved to sing and was in many church choirs as well. She sang at home with family and friends up until her death.
Ellie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert E. Ball, Sr.; her four siblings; and her youngest son, Christopher Ball. She was also preceded in death by many other close family and friends.
Ellie is survived by her three children, Robert E. Ball Jr. (Sue), Barbara Ball Gadkowski (Bob), and David Ball (Gail); her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, and many, many friends.
There will be a private burial service at a later date, in Chatham, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia or The Whalehead Club in Corolla, North Carolina.
