  5. Ginger and Family, my heart goes out to you all. Wykie was a true Outer Banks character and I mean that in an absolutely inspirational way. I recall him with fond memories. He taught me how to sail a Hobie Cat and ask me to join him sailing one from Rodanthe to his home in Mann’s Harbor one time. It was a blast…. I’ve been reminiscing about him today with my Sister Barbara and my Brothers….. Sis was so upset that she couldn’t carry on the conversation…. So many fond memories of a wonderful Guy. My heart hurts for you Ginger and I’m praying for you hoping that your memories ease your pain and comfort you. God Bless you and your family 🙏

  6. Ginger, please know that you are being lifted up by all who knew and loved Wykie. My Dad Vic Jr. of Wanchese had a great friendship over junked boats with him, and some old hulls of his are still resting peacefully out back. You were always by his side and a wonderful couple. Peace be with you. Love Cookie

  12. Ginger,
I used to teach with you for a short period at Mateo Middle School. I was trying to look you up and came across this. I am so sorry to learn of your loss. I know grief is a very personal journey that you must travel in ways that are best for you, but I wish there was some way to ease the heartache this loss has brought upon you. Please know that you remain in my thoughts and I am sending constant prayers of healing and comfort during this difficult time.
You were powerfully influential in my early teaching career and I learned things from you that I still carry with me and use to this day. I would love to reconnect with you to catch up. If you feel up to it and would also like to reconnect, I would love hear from you.

    Kindest regards,
    Milinda (Fraley) Bergren

  13. Wykie is one of the brightest, most superbly talented people in many areas I ever knew.
Didn’t find out about his passing until yesterday (3 Feb 23) when I went to verify his mailing address in order to send an item and his wife Ginger (an unusual person in her own right) answered his phone. Very, very sorry to hear.

Edward “Wykie” Wise, Jr.

November 11, 2022

Edward W. Wise, Jr., known to all as Wykie, a native of Nags Head, NC, went to heaven the morning of Friday, November 11, 2022, while at home with his beloved wife Ginger by his side.

He was the son of “Nettie” and Viola Wise, raised by his Aunt Agnes Barnett.  He leaves behind his wife Ginger, his daughter Shelly, granddaughters Katrina, Sonia, Alexa, and three great grandchildren.

Wykie spent several of his growing up years in Corolla, attending the one room school house and roaming the sand hills and beaches with his faithful dog Rusty.  After high school in Manteo, Wykie went to Embry Riddle in Miami, FL, to train as an aircraft mechanic.  This career enabled him to spend a year in Nassau, Bahamas, maintaining a small fleet of planes at the airport.

Wykie’s interests and talents were many and varied: boat builder, sailmaker, sailor, licensed captain, restorer of antique British cars & motorcycles, etc. He had a special passion for authentic history, especially of The Outer Banks, it’s people and it’s geology. He loved teaching others from his knowledge and way of life.

Wykie attended Outer Banks Community Church.  This unique man will be much missed. Wykie’s preference for cremation was honored. Arrangements for a future celebration of life are pending.  Condolences may be shared at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
