Edith Cole Berry

May 13, 2016

Coinjock – This is not an obituary. Obituaries are about death, and Edith Cole Berry is a timeless soul who will forever demand only to live…once in a body and now in the spirit of all who knew her. Edith was born on December 24, 1919 to Malcolm and Louise Cole in South Norfolk, Virginia. She lived her life with a loving, passionate spirit, and a positive attitude that was both upbeat and infectious.

She married Robert T. Berry on January 25, 1926 and shared many an adventure until his death in 1991. They operated a dairy farm in Deep Creek with their son, Bob Berry until the highway separated the barn and pasture. At this point in their life, they retired to Waterlily Road in Coinjock, built their forever home and began their love of travel. Edith became active in the senior center, playing Scrabble with her Scrabble buddies, meeting with her Red Hat mamas, and continuing her love and service in the Coinjock Baptist Church.

Edith is predeceased by her parents and husband as well as her son, Robert T. Berry, Jr., her grandson Michael Robert Berry and brother, Malcolm Cole.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Patricia Berry of the home, grandson Ellis Berry and Cyndi Berry of Greensboro, NC, granddaughter Tina Berry Craddock and Steve Craddock of Grandy, NC, and granddaughter Lauren Berry and Wayne Burch of Moyock. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren.

Her life was truly an expression of the grace of God. When the Lord came for her on May 13, 2016, she went peacefully with him onto the next adventure. Look out heaven, there is a new star in town!

The funeral services will be held Monday, May 16, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at Coinjock Baptist Church. Friends and family may view Edith one hour prior to the services. Burial will be private.

Expressions of sympathy are welcome on the on-line register at Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
