Dominic James Aven
Kill Devil Hills – Dominic James Aven, “Nick” died suddenly on July 30, 2016 in Kill Devil Hills, NC of a massive heart attack. Born July 1,1962 in Connecticut, he had just turned 54. After graduating from Maury High School in 1981, he headed for Outer Banks residing in Hatteras and later settling in Kill Devil Hills. He was predeceased by his father Donald Aven in 2010. In Kill Devil Hills he managed the Bike Barn for more than 31 years, up to the day he died. He was a bike mechanic by trade and a surfer by life. He traveled far and near for the better wave, making many memories and lifelong friends.
Left to celebrate the memory of Nick Aven is his loving mother, Millie, of Norfolk and Kitty Hawk; three brothers-David of Norfolk, Rusty of Kitty Hawk, and John of Greenville, SC and Virginia Beach,VA; one sister, Kathy Sue Antonio, and husband, Brian, of Huntingtown, MD; two nephews, Andrew Antonio of MD and Kaelan Aven of Florida; a niece, Rachel Antonio of Arlington, VA; two aunts, Gloria Aguilar of Caldwell, NJ, Joy Vermilyea and husband, Dave, of Marshallville, GA. One uncle, Carl Aven and wife, Bonna of Roswell, GA. Besides family Nick will be remembered by many close and long time friends, many of whom share his passion for surfing.
Friends and family may view Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 7 to 9 pm at Gallop Funeral Services in Nags Head. Friday, August the 5, 2016 will be the Mass of Resurrection at Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish in Kitty Hawk at 4 pm.
