Dennis A. Doyle

Dennis A. Doyle, 78, passed in his sleep on March 6, 2024 at his home in Kill Devil Hills after a long fight with cancer. He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Margaret; his daughters, Courtney and Shannon (Alan); his grandchildren, Sean and Cailyn, and many nieces and nephews.
Denny was born in Washington DC in 1945 to the late Gene and Kathleen Doyle. He was the youngest of 3 siblings. Denny was commissioned in the US Army in 1967 and began his life long love of flying as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He flew for the US Park Police in Washington DC for over 20 years and retired as Chief Pilot of the Aviation Unit in 1997.
Denny moved to his dream home with his family in Kill Devil Hills after retirement, planning to live life at the beach. Instead, he spent his early retirement years as a bus driver for Dare County Schools, driving for both Kitty Hawk and Nags Head Elementary. He also dedicated a large part of his life to his church, Holy Redeemer By the Sea, involved with both the Mens Club, and as a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his beloved wife, with whom he barely parted to his last day.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk on March 16, 2024 at 10:30am. Please share memories and condolences with the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.

Dear Doyle Family, I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Denny. Denny worked with me in his position of Chief Pilot of the Park Police. He was wonderful to work with. He was a kind and thoughtful guy. He loved his family. Never any drama and he got the job done. I don't think we have to worry about Denny. He was a faithful servant of God and I believe he is waiting for us in heaven.
We are saddened @your loss of Denny. He was on of mine and Deg. Billy Carroll's USPP FINE recruits of 1972. Denny was a good Person, Peace Office and helicopter pilot. God Bless you with comfort, peace and understanding in the days ahead.
Denny was a kind and gentle man and a great leader. He will be missed. God Bless.
Denny and I were fellow Officer Candidate School class mates. Some how, we both elected to become helicopter pilots after we graduated in 1967. My next contact with him was at one of our reunions back at Fort Sill. I'm sure you know how many tall tales were told after a fifty year gap. I shared some emails, and I think a phone call or two with Denny in the following years. Margaret, you and your family are in my prayers. I have forwarded this obituary to the rest of our class mates.
I went to OCS with Denny at Ft Sill. We had many great times together, especially at the reunions in later years. Sending love and prayers to all.
My late husband, Dwayne, and myself, held Denny in high esteem. Margaret thank you for playing hostess as we’d drop in for a visit. God is near, as Denny is at peace. Sincerely, Jeanette
Bob and I are saddened to hear about Denny’s passing. We will keep the family in our prayers.
I knew almost as long as I was with the Park Police. Alway the gentleman, and knowledgeable of street operations, before going to the Aviation Unit. He was always willing to share his knowledge with those who asked. He will be missed by those who knew him.
