Dawn Morely Northen
Dawn Morely Northen, 76 of Kitty Hawk died peacefully August 31, 2007 in Nags Head. Born in Oswego, New York September 29, 1931, Dawn moved at an early age to Southington Connecticut. After graduation from Southington High School, she enrolled in the University of Virginia Hospital’s School of Nursing. It was there that she met and married her husband of 55 years, Oscar E. Northen, Jr.
Dawn Northen is survived by her husband and their three children; Oscar E. Northen III of Pontiac Michigan, Rebecca Kay Lazos of of Gloucester, Virginia, and Stephanie Renee Schultze and husband Robin of Dover, Arkansas, and two grandchildren; Mathew and Kristin Lazos of Gloucester, Virginia.
In her youth Dawn was a champion competitive baton twirler. Leading the Stony Creek, Connecticut Ancient Drum and Fife Corp, she held the over-all first place championship for New York State and all of New England for three consecutive years before retiring from competition to enter nursing training.
Dawn and her family moved to Virginia Beach in 1965. From the early 1970’s until she retired in 1992, she was the administrative secretary to the Kellum High School Library. She got great pleasure from her years of teaching Sunday School class for 10 to12 year old boys, as well as from her home and garden.
In keeping with Dawn’s wishes, her remains have been donated to the neurological research center at the University of Virginia Hospital.
A service of remembrance will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s research.
