David Alton Thorpe, Jr.

Maidens, Va. and Kill Devil Hills,NC – David Alton Thorpe, Jr. passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at his vacation home in Kill Devil Hills, NC. David was born March 17, 1948, in Falls Church, Va. to the late David and Elizabeth Thorpe. David graduated from J.E.B. Stuart High School and after serving in the U.S. Navy, graduated from the Virginia Commonwealth University with a BS in Biology. He served over twenty years as a mail carrier for the USPS working in the Richmond, Va. area. David was an avid outdoorsman spending much of his time hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister.

He is survived by his life long companion, Donna Jackson of Maidens, Va., a brother, Ronald G. Thorpe of Falls Church, Va., a brother, Phillip J. Thorpe of Raphine, Va., and 8 nieces, 2 nephews and 2 great-nieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Precious Blood Catholic Church, in Culpeper, Va., on Friday May 10 at 10am. Interment with military honors will follow the mass, at noon, at Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, VA.

The family requests that donations be made to cancer-related charities in lieu of flowers. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. Nags Head, NC is entrusted with arrangements.
