David Alan Brinkman, Sr.
David A. Brinkman, Sr. of Kill Devil Hills, NC went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2026. David was born on March 21, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Ida Brinkman. He graduated high school in 1965 from North High School, and went on to earn his degree in Marketing from West Liberty University in West Virginia. He completed his academic pursuits by earning a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in 1974.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Lynn Morenz, in 1968, and they were just days away from celebrating 58 beautiful years together. They relocated to the Washington, D.C. area in 1969 when David accepted a position with the General Accounting Office. He later transitioned to the Department of Defense, where he dedicated his career until his retirement in 2004.
David leaves behind his son Bradford Brinkman of San Diego, his son David A. Brinkman, Jr. of Las Vegas, and his beautiful granddaughters Escarlet Young, Maggie Brinkman, Marissa Brinkman, and Ellie Brinkman. They will deeply miss their “Grandpa” but will forever treasure the wonderful memories they made together. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Leon Young, whom he was eagerly looking forward to seeing before his passing.
David will always be remembered for his infectious laugh, his unwavering cheerfulness, and his genuine willingness to go the extra mile to encourage and help people. He loved to talk and listen to individuals everywhere he went—whether at the bank, post office, grocery store, or local restaurants. If he had any interaction with you, you instantly became his friend. In his cell phone contact list, he kept thoughtful notes about each person, capturing details like how many children they had, where they were from, what they did for a living, and anything else that helped him show how deeply he listened and cared.
David had a lifelong passion for baseball, faithfully pulling for his Cleveland Indians and Baltimore Orioles. He rarely missed a game on MLB TV, and during baseball season, he would regularly text his sons, David and Brad, to share the good, the bad, and the ugly of every play. Beyond baseball, David loved fishing, living on the water, and traveling. He took his loving wife on countless Bus Tours and embarked on over 80 cruises since retirement. Ever enthusiastic about their next adventure, he had actually planned 13 more cruises stretching from October 2025 through March 2026.
Above all, David was a man of God who knew Jesus as his Savior. He was an active Partner at Nags Head Church. His summer worship was spent beautifully on the beach at Mile Post 3 with Sail Ministries, and he faithfully attended the Saturday evening 5:00 PM Mass at Holy Redeemer by the Sea alongside his wife.
A celebration of David’s life will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Nags Head Church at 2:00 p.m. David’s sons and wife would very much like to meet all the people whose lives were touched by their beloved father and husband. The family is planning a memorial service to be held back home in Ohio where David’s remains will be laid to rest. Please share expressions of sympathy with the Brinkman family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
