Charles E. Anderson

Virginia Beach – Charles E. Anderson, age 93, longtime resident of St. Bernard, Ohio, teacher and coach at St. Bernard¬ Elmwood Place Schools, died on May 22, 2016 surrounded by family in Virginia Beach, VA.

Born April 23, 1923 in Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late George T. and Beulah V. Anderson. Charles was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette who died 9/24/10. They were married 65 years.  Charles spent his childhood in Roanoke, VA and Hazard, KY. He attended Springfield College, Massachusetts, class of 1944. He then went on to teach and  coach in the Kentucky towns of Jackson, Russell, Belfry, and Carlisle; in the Tennessee towns of Jacksboro and Mountain City; in St.Bernard, OH, Elizabeth City, NC, Exmore, VA, and Albuquerque, NM. Charles retired in Outer Banks, NC.

Surviving Charles are three sons, Ed (Rosemarie), Joe (Helen), and Carl (Nancy); eight grandchildren, Maggie Wilhelm, and Christopher, Corey, Zoe, Kyle, Charlie, Kathleen and Patrick Anderson; and his beloved nurse, Vanessa Coakley.

Charles will be remembered for his lifelong love of basketball and running and he was beloved by thousands of students and athletes from his 51 years spent in education. The ashes of Charles and Jeanette Anderson  were joined and released to the Atlantic Ocean which they loved. Memorial gifts in Charles Anderson’s memory may be made to The Salvation Army.
