Carolyn Ruth Dale

June 2, 2026

Carolyn Ruth Dale, 80, of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, passed away June 2, 2026 in Norfolk, Virginia surrounded by the love of her family. Carolyn lived a life defined by devotion, quiet strength, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Shelly Proth Jones, whose memory she carried close to her heart.  Carolyn is survived by her husband, Edward Earl Dale, of the Kitty Hawk, NC home; and her daughters, Sherri Leigh Proth (Scott Staton) of Cape Coral, Florida, and Shanna Proth Long (Clifford) of Jefferson City, Tennessee. She also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren: Brittany Boyd Andino (Ricardo), Miranda Long, and Zane Long (Cristina); as well as two great‑grandchildren, Zander Andino and Baby Boy Long, soon to arrive—each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.

Carolyn is also survived by her brother, Jerry Clark (Elizabeth), and sisters‑in‑law Judy Clark and Cathy Clark. Carolyn held a special place in her heart for her adored sons‑in‑law—her “boys”—Andy Jones and Jeff Boyd, and for her dear friend and “Sin Twister,” Brenda Turner. She also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews, as well as her step-daughter Connie Dale and step-son Harold Dale (Stacie), and step-grandchildren: Cynthia Dale, Juan Waddy, Jordan Dale, and Jaylen Dale.

Carolyn will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great‑grandmother, and as a steady source of love, encouragement, and faith for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped and the love she gave so freely.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026 at Gallop Memorial Chapel, 4055 Caratoke Highway, Barco, North Carolina 27917. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to Outer Banks SPCA (Dare County Animal Shelter).
