Carol Saunders Banks

March 27, 2020

Grandy – Carol Marie Saunders Banks born in Norfolk, VA. passed away tragically on March 27, 2020. She was born November 17, 1956 to the late Carroll Melvin Sanders and Jeannie Bickford Saunders.

She had a beautiful smile, with the biggest and sweetest heart. Family was her true passion; nothing gave her more joy than spending time with her loved ones. She was a retired bus driver for Currituck County Public Schools and a member of Coinjock Baptist Church.

If you knew Carol, you’d know she was a selfless caregiver, often putting other’s needs above her own. She was full of love, for all. If you ran into her at the local grocery store, she’d have a smile on her face and would make sure she spoke to you and gave a hug! You probably often heard her speak of her children or grandchildren, she was beaming with pride, her face would light up while talking about her family.

She is survived by her three children, her beautiful twin daughters Jennifer Carol Banks Ayers and husband Kevin, of Elizabeth City, NC, Shannon Marie Banks and fiancé Jeff Pleasant, of Grandy, NC, and her Sonshine, Jake Banks, of Grandy, NC.  Her proudest moments in life were with her grandchildren, Jeffrey Pleasant, Steven Banks, Abigail Midgette, Jonathon Banks, Trevor Pleasant, Claudia Adinolfi, and Brantly Banks. She is also survived by her beloved siblings, William “Billy” Saunders, of Grandy, NC, sister Clarissa Saunders Vance, of Grandy, NC, and sister Susan McClanahan of Point Harbor, NC, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Including her special friend or “mom” Anita Miyasato.

Besides her parents she was proceeded in death by her brother Nathan “Tommy” Saunders.

The family will hold a private memorial service. The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Dare Challenge, in Wanchese, NC. Please express condolences to the family via the online register at  Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
