  1. Carl and I grew up together in Swan Quarter. We remained friends throughout our lives. Carl had a great sense of humor and loved his family very much. The Outer Banks community will certainly miss Carl.

Carlton “Carl” Willard Harris

June 1, 2026

Carlton “Carl” W. Harris passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Mae Harris; and his sister, Pat Gunn.  Carl is survived by his wife, Molly Harris; son, Ritchie Harris; daughters, Missy Kiefer and Shelly Belangia; his four grandchildren, Ava, Mekhi, Catie, and Will; and his siblings, Leonard Harris and Carolyn Boyd.

Carl spent most of his formative years in Swan Quarter. He lived a significant portion of his adult life in various towns and cities across North Carolina. He finally settled in Southern Shores in the late ’80’s / early ’90’s. Carl worked various jobs ranging from mortgage lending to cleaning inspector for Joe Lamb Jr. Realty, to medical transport.

Carl had many loves and passions. First and foremost was his family. He was loyal, protective, and strong willed. Traits that are clear in his children and grandchildren. He loved fishing. Carl’s charm and outgoing nature would engage even the most reserved stranger. Carl was passionate and extremely knowledgeable about history particularly World War II and the Civil War particularly local battles.

Carl was known for his loud and mischievous nature. He lovingly teased everyone he cared for and was quick to laugh. In the early days of their marriage, he and Molly could be seen dancing to beach music at family events and on their various cruises.

The world is a quieter place without him. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Please share expressions of sympathy at www.gallopfuneralservices.com
