Candace Reeves Norrell
Born in Port Jervis, NY to Frank Reeves, Jr. and Rosemary Ross Reeves (both deceased), Candace Reeves Norrell was called home into her Heavenly Father’s arms May 26, 2026 at the family residence in Colington, NC.
Candy graduated from Port Jervis High School in 1961 alongside the love of her life, James E. “Sparkee” Norrell, Jr. Born just four days apart in the same hospital, James fondly joked that he knew he would marry her the moment he looked into her bassinet. The high school sweethearts married on May 9, 1964, and recently celebrated 62 years of devoted marriage. During James’ Army service in the Vietnam War, Candy was his steadfast support from back home, where she worked locally in banking.
Following his return, they welcomed their son, Joshua, and eventually relocated to Kill Devil Hills, NC to join Candy’s parents. There, Candy found her true calling, serving as a beloved teacher’s assistant in the local elementary schools. For over 30 years, Candy shaped the lives of countless children with her patience and care.
Candy was a woman of deep faith, community spirit, and patriotism. She was a dedicated member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She also proudly served as a charter chaplain for the local VFW Post 10950 Auxiliary. Blessed with a delightful, lighthearted sense of humor, she brought joy to her parish, neighbors, and friends. Her legacy of warmth will be treasured by all who knew her.
Candy is survived by her husband, Jim E. Norrell, Jr.; her son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Shelly Norrell; one granddaughter, Sophie of Richmond, VA; her sister: Marylee Reeves Tarrats of Syracuse, NY and four grown nephews and their families. Candy will also be missed by a large, loving extended family of Norrell sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews across generations.
Candy’s preference for cremation has been honored and a memorial service and reception will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Friday June 19, 2026 at 11am. Please share expressions of love and support with Jim and the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com .
