Benjamin H. Chambers, Jr.
Benjamin Harrison Chambers, Jr known to many as “Fuzzy Jr” or “Iceman” passed away at his home on August 17, 2026. He was born on the family farm in Perquimans County, NC on January 16, 1949 to the late Benjamin Harrison Chambers Sr and Anne Elizabeth Wilson Chambers.
Ben was known for his sharp technical mind enabling him to design, build or fix any type of mechanical structure, equipment, or device. His engineering gift was evident early in life, much to the dismay of his mother as he would take things apart, but was always able to put them back together like new. He was often known to have said “if man made it, I can fix it”.
Ben was zesty and full of life; blessed with a big, authentic personality, and the ability to gain the attention of everyone in the room. While his personality was big, his heart was bigger offering his gifted technical abilities to anyone who needed something fixed. He had a lifelong love of Mountain Dew, music, dancing, traveling, racing of any kind, tinkering, visiting with friends and family, “sticking it to the man”, and sharing ideas through spirited discussion. Many who knew Ben personally have colorful stories, with colorful language, that when retold always bring laughter and joy.
Ben’s greatest source of pride was his family. He is survived by the devoted, love of his life and North Star, Patricia Hemingway Chambers; wonderful children Greg and Michelle; stunning stepdaughter Debbie Godwin (Keith); remarkable grandchildren Kayla, Gracelyn, Rubie, Alexis, and Logan; adored great grandson Silas; endeared sister, Jenny (Melvin); loving brother-in-law Larry; loving sister-in-law Rae; loving sister-in-law Barbara and cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his loving parents; remarkable sister Anna; best friend and brother Steven; loving parent-in-laws Herbert and Gracie Hemingway.
Please join us in celebrating the life of this one of a kind man. Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. John Bennett and held at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church 803 West Kitty Hawk Road, Kitty Hawk. Service will begin at 1pm on August 29, 2026.
