Anna Louise Hummers

Nags Head – Anna Louise Hummers, 97, died in Barco on May 14, 2015. Born in Bergen County, NJ, she was the daughter of Bertha and Claude Freligh and the widow of Alfred Walter Hummers.

She is survived by her children, JoAnn and Peter, beloved ‘grandcats’ Olivia and Elliot and many nieces, nephews and friends.

After the death of her husband in 1972 she became a teacher’s assistant at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, until she retired. In 1992 she relocated with her children to Nags Head, where she made many friends and near the end was almost content to watch the birds and squirrels feeding on the third-floor deck outside the sitting room of her home.

A memorial service will be held at Gallop Funeral Services (gallopfuneralservice.com) in Nags Head 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015. In lieu of flowers she wished that donations be made in her memory to the Beach Food Pantry (beachfoodpantry.org), the Outer Banks SPCA (obxspca.rescuegroups.org), or the Network for Endangered Sea Turtles (nestonline.org).
