Ann M. Kirk

Emily Ann Marlowe Kirk, known to everyone as Ann, passed away on February 10, 2024. Ann was 92 years old and born in Roanoke, Virginia, the youngest of four children. She was married to Eugene Wilson Kirk for 68 years until he passed in December 2022. Their love was truly everlasting, and words can’t begin to describe the bond and compatibility they shared. They had three children (Richard, Joy, and Gene), all born in Roanoke, until they moved to Chapel Hill, NC. Ann was a selfless and caring person who would go out of her way to help no matter how tall the task or the time of day. She was especially close to her family, always going the extra mile to ensure her children and grandchildren were continuously cared for and knew they were loved. She wanted to spend time with her two grandchildren and moved to Kernersville, NC, to be close to Marlo and Spencer Kirk where they shared Ann’s kindness, compassion, and love.
Anyone who has the privilege of knowing Ann knew she was fond of cooking, knitting, and supporting her neighbors. In her spare time, Ann created beautiful cross-stitch pieces, and she was an expert knitter, making everything from blankets to washcloths to scarves and baby hats that she donated to local hospitals. Pleasing the palate was a natural talent she had, preparing countless homemade meals.
Ann leaves behind a legacy of love, selflessness, and resilience that will continue to inspire the lives she has touched. We find solace that she has gone to join her husband, “Kirk”, in eternal life. Ann was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She spent her last year in Barco, NC. Her spirit is with us and Ann will be forever missed.
Please share an expression of grace with the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
Condolences
Love you Aunt Anne!
Gene, sorry for our loss. Anna and I are so proud of you, Gene, for taking great care of both of your parents Ann and Kirk to the very end. You did good! Aloha 'oe Ann-until we meet again...
Having been a friend with her kids from childhood from their early years until this day, she always treated me as another son. The mother I never had. I can only say I was blessed to know her, and she will be missed forever in my heart To her children and her grandchildren I can only say that you had a mother and grandmother that was better than any other that I have ever seen or known
I was blessed to have known Ann. Listening to all her stories about the love of her life. May she rest in peace along with Kirk and our Lord Jesus.
I am terribly sorry for your loss. I am sure she is overjoyed to be reunited with your Dad.
My deepest sympathy to the family. I’m sorry to hear the news of her passing. So glad I had the opportunity to meet her a couple years ago and learn our paths crossed over 65 years ago. It truly is a small world.
Ann and Kirk were such wonderful neighbors in Kensington Village. I remember her delicious banana bread and still use her pretty knitted dish cloth. Gene, it was so nice to meet you while you were here helping with your folks. Sending my condolences and prayers for you all. I hope your happy memories will bring you comfort and though I know you will miss her terribly, may you find peace in knowing she’s with her sweetheart in heaven.
This is really a sad shock. Anne and I used to play together during my visits out to the country where she lived on a farm. A sweet, kind girl.
