Amy Rebecca Goodman

May 5, 2026

Amy Rebecca Goodman, of Hatteras, was born September 23, 1974, and left this world on May 4, 2026, at home surrounded by family, after a stubborn fight with cancer. In true Amy fashion, she fought hard, cracked jokes through the chaos, and probably had notes about how everyone else could’ve done things better.

She is survived by her parents, Patricia Peele and Gene Goodman; her sister Jennifer Goodman Scarborough (I.G.); her uncle Michael Peele (Claudia); and her sisters-in-spirit, Amy Peele Hamann (Nick) and Amie Pannuty — along with a wide circle of friends, and honorary family members.

Amy was a builder, fixer, cook, photographer, skater, and professional smartass with an unmatched wit and a personality too big to fit into any one job title. If something was broken, she could probably fix it. If it couldn’t be fixed, she’d at least have a sarcastic comment about whoever designed it in the first place.

Her career path was as colorful as she was — from EMS work in Ocracoke to cooking at country clubs in Oak Island. She collected friends everywhere she went and left stories behind that are probably still getting retold — some of them barely appropriate.
Amy loved cooking for people, taking photographs, and skating with her Derby Girls, where her toughness, humor, and refusal to back down fit right in. She had a huge spirit, and laugh, with the rare ability to make people feel both loved and thoroughly roasted at the same time.

The family will host Amy’s celebration of life in September. The date and location will be announced in the future. In honor of Amy, attendees are encouraged to bring good stories, questionable jokes, and perhaps a tool kit — because she’d probably still have opinions about how things should be set up. Memorial donations made to the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation in Amy’s honor, are greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers.
