Alvin Richard Finkbohner

Manteo -Alvin Finkbohner of Manteo passed away May 12 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. He had been a resident of Colony Ridge Nursing Home (now Peak Resources) for the past 4 years. He was a tough and proud man who continued to want to do things for himself, never wanting to impose on others.

Alvin was born February 3, 1931 to Augusta and Alfred Finkbohner. He grew up in Lava and Narrowsburg, NY. He married Gloria Meyer in 1952. They were married for 61 years prior to her death in November 2013. Alvin served in the United States Navy and later became a carpenter. He built many homes in Vermont and North Carolina. He and Gloria raised their four children in South Londonderry and Peru, Vermont.

The Finkbohners relocated to the Outer Banks and have lived in Manteo for over 35 years. Alvin is survived by a brother, Allen, and daughters Gail Reichert (Peter), Janice McHale (Timothy), and Linda Goslee (Robert), son Guy Finkbohner (Dawn), five grandchildren and one great grandson. A celebration of his life will be held in June.
