Alma LaVerne Volk

Alma LaVerne Volk, 93, of Jarvisburg, NC passed away peacefully from natural causes at her home on Monday, July 20, 2026.  She was surrounded by her loving family.

“LaVerne” as she was best known- was born in Wetumka, OK on November 24, 1932 to the late Alma Simpson and the late Vernie Lorenzo McLeod. She grew up in Wewoka, OK where she attended Wewoka High School.LaVerne had a silent strength that carried her through life with grace and resilience. Retiring at the age of 79, she worked many dedicated years with the Ace Hardware company in The Outer Banks of North Carolina.  LaVerne shared 68 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, the late Gerald “Jerry” Volk. Together they built a family that was the center of her life.

She is lovingly remembered by her six surviving children; Deborah Cowan, of Harbinger, NC, Donna Volk of Richmond, VA, Ricky Volk (Marcy) of Roanoke, VA, J. Denise Griggs (David) of Point Harbor, NC, T. Dianne Dobbins (John) of Winchester, MA and Deanna Volk (Cole Drew) of Jarvisburg, NC.  Also surviving are twelve grandchildren; seven great-children; and one sister, Virginia Greenwood.

In addition to her parents and her husband, LaVerne was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Volk; two of her siblings, Edna Crow and Donald McLeod; and one grandchild, Bridget Dobbins.The family sincerely appreciates the compassionate care provided by Amedisys Hospice, especially Amy, Tuwanda and Candi. A private memorial service will be held at a future date.  Gallop Funeral Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
