Zandra Schmoyer
Colington- Zandra Schmoyer died at the home of her friends, Rick and Karen Graf, Friday May 3, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Zandra was born in Belhaven, NC June 14, 1944. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles F. Schmoyer, her parents, Thomas and Minnie Lee Burrus, and her two sisters, Ada Burrus and Roshell Ward.
A long time Outer Banks resident, Zandra worked in several local businesses including Gray’s Department Store and the Fish House. Most recently, Zandra enjoyed being self-employed. In her spare time, Zandra loved fishing and was a devoted member of the renowned local women’s surf fishing team, the Sand Bunnies.
Surviving Zandra are her two sons, Michael Stephan Payne, Jr. of Manteo, and Richard Eric Payne (Cynthia) of Mann’s Harbor; one sister, Jennie Kite; three grandsons, Brandon M. Payne, Tanner S. Payne, and Joshua W. Ferguson; one granddaughter, Caroline M. Grantham, several extended family members, her Sand Bunny fishing family, and numerous dear friends.
The family gratefully suggests that memorial donations in Zandra’s honor be made the local chapter of the NC Beach Buggy Association. A celebration of life will be held June 14, 2013 at a time and local fishing spot to be announced. The Rev. Dwight Burrus will officiate.
