Willie Gus Saunders, Jr.

Wanchese – Willie Gus Saunders, Jr, 90, took his final breath on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024 in Virginia Beach. Gus was a Dare County native born in 1933 to the late Willie Gus Saunders, Sr. and Hosanna Fanny Payne.

Willie is survived by his wife, Kathy Denise Weston-Saunders; five step-children, Keondra “Hot Rod” and Letia “Doll” who held a special place in his heart and Joshua, Josheesh, and Shaniyah; and special step-granddaughter, Ariella “Sugarfoot”. He is also survived by his sister, Winnie; niece, Pam; and many other extended family members and loving friends.

Willie’s life was full of adventure and love. He was an amazing husband who drove race cars, motorcycles and was a commercial fishing captain for many years. Willie was also a proud US Army veteran. Willie loved God and everyone that knew Willie, knew that.
