William “Bill” Norko

William “Bill” Norko, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong learner, passed away on August 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on October 27, 1946, to William and Helen (Hylinski) Norko, Bill was the embodiment of curiosity and commitment. He was a man who believed deeply in the power of education and spent his life not only pursuing knowledge but also sharing it generously with others.
Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, and afterward, returned to the University of Connecticut to earn his master’s degree in statistics. He began his career as a systems analyst and rose to become the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of a major utility company. His work in the insurance and energy sectors was marked by innovation and integrity.
Beyond his corporate achievements, Bill’s love for learning drove him to create the computer science curriculum at Stonehill College and teach at various colleges across Massachusetts throughout his career. He concluded his professional journey as a professor in the Math Department at Lynchburg College (now the University of Lynchburg), where he taught mathematics, computer science, and statistics.
At the center of Bill’s life was his unwavering love for his wife of 55 years, Louise (Olsen) Norko. Together, they created a life filled with laughter, learning, and deep-rooted family values. They celebrated their milestone anniversary at their cherished home in Kitty Hawk, surrounded by their children and grandchildren – the people who brought Bill the greatest joy.
Bill was a proud father to Sarah Barry (Shawn) of Vienna, VA, and Adam Norko (Whitney) of Kill Devil Hills, NC and an adoring grandfather to Tyler Barry, Connor Barry, Evan Barry, Hannah Barry, Case Barry, Ava Norko, Finn Norko, Mack Norko, and Lion Norko. His role as “Papa” was one he cherished most, always sharing stories, wisdom, and love with his grandchildren.
He was an avid reader, a lifelong learner, taught his children astronomy, and shared his enjoyment of diverse genres of music. Bill was also an enthusiastic golfer, often playing in club tournaments with his circle of golf friends.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Louise, his children and grandchildren, and his siblings Daniel Norko, Donna Norko Gakins, Elizabeth Norko, and sister-in-law Rozanne Norko. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember his warmth and sense of humor. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Raymond Norko.
Bill’s legacy is one of wisdom, quiet strength, humor, and generosity. He taught by example, lived with integrity, and loved his family with his whole heart. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A private memorial service will be held at later date. Please share a message of comfort at gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services was entrusted with arrangements.
