  1. I’m so sorry for your loss. I have good memories from back when I was growing up, seeing her learn to drive back in the 1970s and taking us children to the pool on hot summer days. She was a sweet
person who will be missed. May God give you all the peace and comfort that only He can give.

Virginia Karen Egan

August 19, 2025

Moyock – Virginia Karen Egan, “Meme” passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 19, 2025 in her home surrounded by family. She was born August 5, 1960, raised in Virgina Beach but lived most of her life in Moyock, NC. Karen had a great passion for sewing, crafting, sea turtles and absolutely loved attending Nascar Races where she could see her favorite driver Dale Earnhardt Sr.

Karen was preceded in death by her biological father Lonnie G. Godley and her loving daddy, William C. Spruill, ‘Papa” of Moyock NC.

Those left to cherish her memory are her selfless, devoted mother, Betty M. Spruill, “Mema” of Moyock; her sister, Debra “Debbie” K. Scarano (David) of Hertford; and her brother, William B. “Bubba” Spruill (Barbara) of Moyock. Karen also leaves behind her two daughters, Kimberly Hartman (Shag) and Amanda Kappes (Brad); five grandchildren, Austin, Matthew (Trinity), Cayland, Stormy (Alex), and Zoey; and one great granddaughter, Azula Rae. Meme as many called her will also be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends whom she loved and cherished.

Her two daughters would like to express their sincere gratitude to Mema, Bubba, Barbara, Debbie, the Home Health Aides and Hospice Nurses for their compassionate care of their mother Karen throughout her illness. We could not go without mentioning her nephew Johnnie Starboard. Johnnie spent many selfless hours looking after her when needed.

Details for a Celebration of Life will follow at a later date. Please leave a message of comfort at gallopfunralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc was entrusted with arrangements.
