Ursula Rickman

Southern Shores- Ursula Rickman, co-owner and bookseller of the Island Bookstores on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, has died at the age of 76. Generations of visitors as well as locals have become enthusiastic readers due to her passion and discerning care in selecting and recommending the right book for everyone.

Ursula was born in Rochelle, Illinois, to Ruth and Paul Vogeler. She attended Morris Community High School in Morris, Illinois, and graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After teaching elementary school near Rockford, Illinois, she moved to Chicago, where she worked as a bookseller and librarian. Here, she met her husband Bill, and together they raised four children in Evanston, Illinois.

Ursula is survived by her husband William, her sister Nancy; four children: Stefan, Michael, Erika, and Gretchen; her daughter- and sons-in-law: Natalie, Jason, and Rob; and seven grandchildren: Markus, Tobias, Lars, Brita, Hans-Karl, Leif, and Gustav.

Service will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Southern Shores on Tuesday, 29 March at Noon.
