Sharon Owens Carroll

Nags Head- Our hearts are saddened to announce Sharon Owens Carroll went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2023. She was born October 18, 1960 and raised in Virginia Beach, VA. Sharon was predeceased by parents David and Evelyn Owens; paternal grandparents, David and Margaret Owens; maternal grandparents Zadoke and Anne Melson; and brothers, Brian Owens and Mark Owens.
Sharon graduated from First Colonial High School in 1979. After high school she entered the banking profession. She always loved her customers and never forgot a face or name. Sharon moved to the Outer Banks over twenty years ago and loved the island life. Always a beach girl at heart; there was never a dull moment with her quick wit. She was always able to make anyone laugh. An avid gardener- Sharon especially enjoyed growing tomatoes every summer. Also, a very crafty woman, Sharon loved to paint, cook, and spend time with those closest to her.
Sharon was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, cousin and friend to many. She was a genuine, special, one- of- a- kind soul who was proudly called “Gumpy” by her four grandchildren that she loved dearly. Sharon is survived by two daughters, Brittney Smrdel, Jessica Ballance; her four grandchildren Illiana, Bailey, Brody, and Jasmine; her dearest friends, Keith Daniel and Kerry Baxter; her brother, Todd Owens (Kim) and many other lifelong friends and extended family members.
The celebration of life will be held 11am on May 4, 2024 at Currituck Sound Park, 8955 Caratoke Highway, Point Harbor, NC 27964. . In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to www.stjude.org or to a worthy charity of your choice. Please express condolences to the family via the online register at gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services was entrusted with arrangements.

To you, Brittney, and your loved ones, I am most sorry to hear of your mom’s entrance to Heaven. I always remembered her birthday-such a beautiful time of year. Please do not hesitate to contact Larry and I for anything you and your family may need…we are here, back in the OBX, for you.
I’m so saddened my her loss. She was kind, gentle and funny. My deepest sympathy to her family

I am at a loss for words. Please know our prayers go out to you Jessica. It was so nice having you both over for dinner recently. I will miss her but just knowing she is with her brothers and parents gives me a bit of peace.
Brittney and family- I am so sorry to hear of Sharon’s passing. I can still see her standing next to me as tellers and all her funny jokes. She was loved being Gumpy and adored you all. She loved her customers as well. She will be missed. Prayers to you all.

My heart goes out to her family, especially Jessica and Jasmine. I am very thankful for the holidays we all spent together. I remember her helping me identify the birds that made a nest on my porch over the summer. She was spot on with her knowledge! May her memories bring a smile to your face in this difficult time.
