Rosa “Stevie” Northwood
Rosa Stevens “Stevie” Leary Northwood died in Elizabeth City, NC, on December 24, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born in Currituck County, NC, on August 28, 1940, and became a long-term resident of Elizabeth City. Stevie was preceded in death by husband, William M. Northwood; husband, Earl H. Johnston; son, Mark H. Johnston; father, Christopher C. Leary III, and mother Clara Sears Leary.
Stevie is survived by her brothers, Wayne S. Leary (wife, Fay) and Christopher C. Leary IV (wife, Patricia) of Shawboro, NC, plus other relatives and friends.
Stevie was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Shawboro, NC and later of Berea Baptist Church in Elizabeth City. She was also a graduate of Moyock High School and Elizabeth City State University with a major in Art.
The family will honor Stevie’s preferences for cremation and a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, Stevie’s family gratefully suggests that memorial donations in her honor be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. I was so saddened to hear of Stevie's passing. We attended ECSU together. I spent a many of afternoons having lunch with her and Bill at the Sandwich Market. My condolences to the family.
So sad to hear about Stevie. She and I worked together during summers when I was in high school at Ferebee and Son. I have so many memories and funny stories about her. She taught me so many life lessons and when I make mistakes, I always think, Stevie tried to tell me about this!!
