Robert Eugene Van Zee
Robert Eugene Van Zee died Friday April 27, 2007 at the family residence in Southern Shores, North Carolina. He was 83. Robert Van Zee was born in Orange, New Jersey July 20, 1923. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Eugene Van Zee and Katherine Henderson Van Zee.
Robert received his education in civil engineering while attending Bucknell University and Newark College of Engineering. He worked for many years designing and building New Jersey’s highway system.
Robert Van Zee served his country honorably for four years as a Marine in the Pacific theater during World War II. He traveled extensively through out Asia fulfilling his military duties.
As a faithful servant of God, Robert served as a trustee for North Orange Baptist Church in New Jersey and a councilman for Christ Lutheran Church. There he founded the Genesis Garden to feed the hungry.
Locally, Robert Van Zee served as a trustee for Duck Methodist Church and was instrumental in the construction of the church parsonage. He was also a local President of Habitat for Humanity, and built eleven homes in Manteo, North Carolina.
Left to cherish the memory of Robert Eugene Van Zee is his devoted wife Joan Van Zee of Southern Shores, one daughter, Susan Adams, one son, Robert Van Zee, two step-children Diane Kempf and Steven Roncin, and eight grand children.
A celebration of the life of Robert Van Zee was held at Duck Methodist Church Monday April 30, 2007 at 11 O’clock AM. Interment followed at Southern Shores Cemetery.
