  1. Mr. Barclay was our neighbor since 2001 when we moved to Southern Shores. He was absolutely one of the kindest souls I’ve ever known. I looked forward to his stories, his wit and his charm. I always referred to him as “our sharped dress man.” He was always dressed so handsomely when he would leave for work at the Currituck Club. Thank you Mr. B for the laughter, love and most of all for being a true friend. We will miss you Sir. ❤️🙌🏻

Ream Franklin Barclay

Ream Franklin Barclay resident of Southern Shores, NC passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025. Ream was 88 years old. He was born on February 14, 1937 in Akron, Ohio.

He worked at Barclay and Sons Store in Akron, Ohio in his youth and became a shipping department manager at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Akron, Ohio before moving to the Outer Banks in 1984 and becoming owner operator of Coastal Surface Cleaning and Staining. His final career move was a security guard at the Currituck Club in Corolla, NC where he retired from in 2017.

Ream was married to the late Betty Jane Barclay on January 10, 1958 in Akron, Ohio. They were happily married for 67 years.

He is survived by his son Ream C. Barclay and Michael A. Barclay; his daughter-in-law Barbara A. Barclay; two grandchildren, Michael A. Barclay II and Morgan A. Barclay. Ream is Preceded in death by his father, Ream A. Barclay, mother Dorothy Barclay, brothers, Richard and Robert Barclay and granddaughter, Taylor A. Barclay.

Ream was the most loving husband and father. He loved his family and friends very much and loved spending time with them. His quick wit and sense of humor were his forte. He was a very accomplished scuba diver in his youth along with his baseball and softball play as well. He loved hunting, fishing and camping. The outdoors was his passion. Ream also had an extreme love for motorcycles, trains and animals. He enjoyed watching sports, especially football, baseball and hockey. The Green Bay Packers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Philadelphia Phillies and Carolina Hurricanes were four of his favorite teams.

Ream was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Shores, NC.

There will be a memorial service at a later date at Laurel Memorial Gardens in Currituck. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Outer Banks SPCA at obxspca.org
