She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Ivey; and brothers Alfred Gallop, Johnnie Gallop, Claude Gallop, Wilbert Gallop, Clesten, and sisters Sadie Ferebee and Pauline Jones.
Pocahontas was survived by her daughters Gertrude Vango (Ray) of Fayetteville, NC, Cheryl Mitchell (Reginold) of Washington, DC, Luke Gallop (Deborah) of Moyock, NC, Darlene Lewis (Thurman) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Matilda Ivey of Brooklyn, NY. She was a longtime and faithful member of Pleasant Branch Baptist Church. Pocahontas was a caring, dedicated servant of her community and never met a stranger. Her loving wit and humor set her apart and she always welcomed everyone to her home and table. She thoroughly enjoyed engaging with people and programming at the Powells Point Senior Center where she was affectionately known as the “Domino Queen.”

She was the rock and matriarch of her immediate family assisting in raising her granddaughter, Jacole, and supporting all her grandchildren, hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts where she cooked entire meal spreads. Pocahontas was an enthusiastic, avid reader who graduated from the Jarvisburg Colored School as an honor student.
