Peregrine Barclay White

November 11, 2025

Peregrine Barclay “Perry” White was called to his heavenly home on November 11, 2025.  He was 91 years old, having been born May 6, 1934 in New York City to the late Carroll S. White and the late Eloise Barclay White.   His only sibling was his sister, the late Ashley Williamson.  Perry was a strong man of faith, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. The family is thankful for the amazing and compassionate care given him by the Outer Banks Dementia Friendly Coalition Day Out Program, GEM Services, the team members of Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Kill Devil Hills and Albemarle Home Care & Hospice for his care in his final months.

Perry is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Kaye; son Ken (Sarah) White of Silver Spring, Maryland; daughter Pierrette (Charles) McIntire of Driggs, Idaho; grandchildren Lauren (Meghan Pak) White and Stephanie White, and step-grandson Charlie McIntire; his sisters-in-law Rose (Ralph) Heller, Merry (Ray) Morgan, brother-in-law Gary (Janet) Milleson,  sister-in-law Barbara Milleson, his sister’s daughters, Tammy Miller, Lisa Bitzer, Debra Martinson and Tracy Arant; and many other loving nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Glenn Milleson, brother-in-law Wilson (Mary Virginia) Milleson and brother-in-law Don (Pat) Milleson.

Perry was born in New York City and grew up in Berea, Ohio until the family moved to Amherst, Massachusetts when he was 12.  Throughout his high school years, he participated in theater, band and chorus and served as a paper boy.  He attended The University of Massachusetts for four years to study Electrical Engineering and became the Chief Engineer at the College radio station.  His love for radio engineering became his focus and he took a summer job at NBC in Washington, D.C., then served in Greenland as a contract engineer for the Air Force.

After moving back to Washington, D.C., he met Kaye Milleson, and they were married at New York Avene Presbyterian Church in 1958.  They lived in Kensington, Maryland.  He worked for WWDC radio where he met the Beatles during their first visit to the US for the in 1964 for a concert in Washington, D.C. He then went to work once again for NBC TV and stayed with the network for 25 years, doing camera work for several Presidents, football games and many other events.  During this time, he went back to college and earned a B.S. Degree in Organizational Behavior.

After early retirement from NBC, he worked as Chief Engineer for the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons), building their TV studio and broadcasting across the country for eight years. He then fully retired to move to his and Kaye’s retirement home in Nags Head, NC in 1998.  While at AARP, he received an award for Excellence in Resource Management for his achievement in building the new broadcast studio while reducing production cost by more than one million dollars for the year.  In Nags Head, he broadcast the Dare County Commissioners meetings for a few years until they had their own equipment and personnel.

In Maryland, he dedicated his volunteer work to the Wheaton Rescue Squad, where he served as a Paramedic for over 35 years, earning the Paramedic of the Year award four times.  He also served as Lieutenant and twice as President before retiring to move to the Outer Banks.  He was a volunteer fire fighter for the Nags Head Fire Department for over ten years. Throughout his adult life, Perry was very involved in politics, and after moving to the Outer Banks, he served as President of the Republican party for Dare County for many years. He also served as Chairman of the Republican Historic Albermarle-Pamlico Club for the Third District and was inducted into the North Carolina Republican Hall of Fame in 2011. He served on the Roanoke Island Commission for several years.

Perry loved singing and was a member of both the Outer Banks Senior Chorus and the choir at All Saints Episcopal Church for many years.  He became the lighting and sound point person for the Theatre of Dare and the Outer Banks Forum for several years in the early 2000s.  He was a Life Time Member of the First Flight Society, serving as a Board Member and as a Committee Member for the First Flight Centennial Board as they planned the 100 years of flight celebration in 2003.  He was a member of the OBX Ham Radio Club.  He also served as a long-term member of the Order of St. Luke, a healing ministry and served on the Healing Ministry Committee at All Saints Episcopal Church.

Perry purchased a Piper Tri-Pacer in 1968 to learn to fly and became an instrument rated pilot. He then acquired a Grumman American Cheetah in 1978.  He and Kaye traveled over the country in their airplane until they retired to the Outer Banks in 1998. Perry loved to travel, and he and Kaye spent their retirement years going to many countries, including China, and vacationed all over the United States.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Outer Banks Community Foundation, All Saints Episcopal Church or the Outer Banks Dementia Friendly Coalition.  The family invites all to visit with them at Gallop Funeral Chapel- Nags Head on December 12, 2025  from 2 pm to 4 pm and for a celebration of his life at All Saints Episcopal Church in Southern Shores on December 13, 2025 at 11 am with The Rev. Tommy Drake officiating. Reception to follow.  Expressions of sympathy are welcome at gallopfuneralservices.com.  Gallop Funeral Services was entrusted with arrangements.
