Nancy Susan Risko

Southern Shores, N.C.—Nancy Susan Risko passed away at Britthaven Nursing Center early Thursday October 9, 2008 in the comfort of her husband and son. Nancy’s life began in Charleston, Missouri on February 26, 1947. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Lucy Farmer Whitehead and the sister of Richard Whitehead, Jenye Whitehead Wedeking, and Carla Jo Whitehead Knaup, all deceased.

Nancy lived life as a devoted Navy wife and mother.  She spent most of her life taking care of others as a Registered Nurse for over 20 years. Her death will be mourned in every city she lived- from San Diego to Virginia Beach to Biloxi to Minneapolis and finally, to Southern Shores, North Carolina.

Nancy S. Risko is survived by her husband of 37 years, Georgi of the Southern Shores residence; one son, Brian and daughter in-law Kimberly and one grandson Brandon Risko of Saint Charles, Missouri. In addition, she is survived by nine brothers, John, Russell, Ben, Bob, Irvin, Bill, Jim, Arthur, and Charles Whitehead.

In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, the family will scatter her ashes in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego near Point Loma, this spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any memorial tributes honoring Nancy be made to the Southeast Missouri State University Nursing program.
