Nancy Maury Porter Wood

Kill Devil Hills-It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife and mother, Nancy Maury Porter Wood at age 68. Nancy was born February 13^th 1943 in Richmond, VA with her fondest childhood memories being the adoration of her father, Robert Gregory Porter. Nancy graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1965 and received her Master of Arts in Counseling from North Carolina Central University in 1983.  During these years, Nancy raised her three beloved children, Nicole, Johnna and Grayson. 

Nancy met the love of her life, William Ray Wood in 1991; they were married on August 11^th, 1994 and her family was joyfully extended with two step-children Wendy and Michael.  Nancy was a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren who will greatly miss their “Mimi”. She was so proud of all their achievements. Throughout her life she continued to love and cherish children of all ages. Nancy’s profession was another one of her passions. 

She is respected for the counseling and support she provided to many who were touched by and benefited from her strength and gift in this regard.  Flowers gratefully declined in lieu of donations to one of Nancy’s charities of choice, the Outer Banks Hotline, P.O. Box 1417, Manteo, NC 27954, attn.: Lynn Bryant, (252) 473-5121.  All who knew and were fond of Nancy, we invite you to please join in celebration of her life.  Memorial service is scheduled for December 10, 2011, 4 pm, at the Kitty Hawk Pier, Kitty Hawk, NC, and reception to follow.
