Myrna Lee Scarborough

Myrna L. Gray Scarborough, 84 of Avon, NC died peacefully in Greenville, NC. She was at the ECU Cancer Center under the remarkable care of the Center’s staff who the family is incredibly appreciative to. She joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven, December 20, 2023 as her loving family surrounded her.
Myrna was born in Avon, NC August 1, 1939, the loving daughter of the late George C. Gray and the late Selma Peterson Gray of Avon. Besides her parents, Myrna was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, George C. Gray, Jr. and Brenda Gray, both of Avon; her sister, Deanie Gray Hess of Norfolk, VA; and her sister Esta Gray of Avon, NC who passed away 3 days after Myrna.
Throughout her full life, Myrna was a devoted military wife and caring homemaker. In those roles, Myrna became known as an extraordinary cook, with a stewed chicken and pie bread speciality. In addition, Myrna worked for Hatteras Realty for 25 years and cared deeply for her community. She had a contagious laugh, and never met a stranger. She was passionate about comforting others in times of need and the countless hours of fellowship with her family.
Myrna is survived by her devoted husband of over 66 years Harvey Doxey Scarborough, Sr. of the Avon residence; two sons, Harvey D. Scarborough, Jr. (Dianna) and Jason Scarborough both of Avon, NC; two daughters, Terri Liverman (Paul) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Denise Matthews (Keith) of Avon; one grandson, Brandon Matthews of Richmond, VA; one granddaughter, Kristin Matthews Taylor (Lance) of Avon, NC; sister Yvonne Hooper also of Avon; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her first great-grandson Landon Michael Taylor who she already adored while awaiting his arrival.
The family is honoring Myrna’s wishes for cremation. A graveside memorial will take place in Avon at a future time. Please share an expression of sympathy and comfort with the Scarborough family at http://www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with the arrangements.
Condolences
Prayers for your familyGod Bess you through this sad time
My aunt Myrna was only 13 years old when I was born to her sister Yvonne, so through the years, she was seen more as an older cousin, never really as Aunt Myrna until we became old. She was dedicated to her husband and children, loving each military stationing and final retirement in Kinnakeet Village. There, her home was between her sisters, Yvonne and Esta, where there could visit at will. Each of the sisters had the Gray ‘spunk’ and strong will to do for their husbands and children whatever was needed! She will be missed……. Much love to her children and husband Harvey Sr. ❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
To Harvey, Sr and Family: Sending prayers and much love to you and all the family at this difficult time. Hugs to all, Granddaddy Jimmy Richards and Family, Virginia Beach, VA
