December 24, 2011

Point Harbor- Mildred Griggs Moore, 84, departed from this life at her home overlooking the sound on Saturday, December 24, 2011. She was a native and lifelong resident of Currituck County. She often spoke of her love and loyalty to her heritage in Currituck. She was born on November 14, 1927 to Bertie Walker Griggs and Thomas “Grady” Griggs. She was predeceased by an older brother, Edward Griggs, and she is survived by a younger brother, Tommy Griggs.

Mildred graduated from East Carolina Teachers College and taught elementary school for 20 years. She had intense love and compassion for children, for the elderly, for the underprivileged, and for her friends and family. Her zest for the welfare of these people in her life was immeasurable and unconditional.

She is survived by her best friend and loving husband, Clifton (Moe) Moore. Their marriage of almost 63 years was the foundation of her blessed life. They lived life to the fullest and enjoyed many trips and social gatherings with dear friends and family.

Left to cherish her memory along with her husband is a daughter, Martha MacDonald and her husband Bruce MacDonald; granddaughters, Caroline McCall, Hilary Smith and her husband Joel Smith; grandsons, Grady Moore and Ryan Moore, and a daughter-in-law, Vickie Moore. Sadly, their dear son, Mike Moore, predeceased her death in 2006.

A celebration of her life will be held at Duck United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. A reception with the family will follow at Duck Woods Country Club.

The family is kindly requesting no flowers or food; however, a contribution to a charity of choice in memory of Mildred Moore would be most appreciated.
