  8. So very sorry, Danny for this heartbreak. Mary Lee’s love, lessons & laughter will endure
and nurture our hearts & minds all of our days.

  9. Mary Lee and I have known each other for almost 30 years. Our passion was the same – early childhood education. I have fond memories of deep discussions about curriculum, and what’s best for children under the age of five, many discussions about development, room, arrangement, and whether or not they need more than one hour nap. Lol.

Mary Lee and I also bonded over Jesus. We both love him so much. And I’m delighted for her that she is now in HIS arms. Of course, I am sad for me because I can no longer have theological discussions with her.

Mary Lee was a woman of integrity, passion and someone who showed her love for Jesus in her works. She was always the first to volunteer to help and that was never more obvious in 2017 when she and Danny were our “arms and legs” in a renovation. Her demonstration of God’s love is overwhelming even to this day.

Danny – Heather she was quite a woman and I thank you both for the honor and joy of knowing her and loving her as a sister in Christ.

I will miss you my friend but I know you are in good hands and I will see you again. Much love, Linda L-Z

  10. I was saddened to hear Mary Lee has passed. While I have not seen her since her days as a student in Rector, AR where her family lived behind us and were our neighbors, I still have fond memories of her and some fun birthday parties at her house. Her mother was my 5th grade teacher, and my aunt was one of our junior high teachers who lived close by, as well as our home economics teacher, our history teacher, and two other elementary school teachers. Mary Lee, like myself, had no choice but to become teachers ourselves since we were surrounded by them! I’m positive she became one of the best. My sympathy to all of you.

Mary Lee Wilkerson

June 19, 2023

We are sad to announce the passing of Mary Lee Wilkerson (Janes) on June 19, 2023. Mary Lee was born August 11, 1942 in Rector, Arkansas. She received her Bachelor of Science from Harding University and her Master of Science from the University of Arkansas. She devoted her life to education and taught 25 years in the City of Virginia Beach Public Schools in Family Consumer Sciences with a passion for Child Development and Early Childhood Education. Her most memorable times teaching were at the Virginia Beach Technical and Career Education Center (Vo-Tech) running the child development lab with her high school students and preschool children.

Mary Lee was a devoted Christian who gave an abundance of her love, time, and attention to the church and volunteering with the food pantry each week. She was an active member of the community and loved 4-H and watching her grandkids raise their livestock.

She left behind a legacy of love with her sense of humor and laugh, her ability to heal hearts and comfort others and the notion that family meant everything – she will forever be in our hearts.

Mary Lee is survived by her husband, Daniel D. Wilkerson III, daughters Heather Newton (Kevin), Krista Parks (Gary, pre-deceased), Ben Wilkerson and her sister, Deborah Work. Her grandchildren, Parker Woodruff, Madison Childress, Clayton Childress, Matthew Wilkerson, Ryan Parks, Jacob Newton (Jessie) and Kenny Newton (Kelsey). She had four great grandchildren, Aaron Newton, Weston Newton, Brock Newton, and Lily Brunson.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on July 1, 2023 at Pilmoor Methodist Church located at 192 Courthouse Rd, Currituck, NC 27929. There will be a reception gathering immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, Mary Lee asked that an individual donation be made to a charity of your choice. Please share condolences with the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com.
