Manteo- Mark S. Alverson of Manteo, died at his home Sunday January 11, 2015 after a brave battle with cancer.  Mark was 53 and was predeceased by his parents, Herman Ray Alverson and Theresa Anne Alverson.

Mark was born in Danville, Virginia October 23, 1961. He lived to fish.  For several years and up until his illness, Mark worked as a head boat first mate out of Oregon Inlet.  In his spare time he earned numerous fishing citations and spent countless hours with his fishing buddies in Nags Head at the Outer Banks Fishing Pier.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 18 years, Carolyn Alverson of the Manteo residence; two brothers, Mike Alverson (Debra) of Danville, VA and Matt Alverson of Hampton, Tennessee; many extended family members; loyal friends, and  his Outer Banks Pier “fishing family.”

Plans for a spring memorial service at The Outer Banks Fishing Pier are pending at this time and will be announced in the near future. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are gratefully welcomed for the VIP Fishing Tournament of the Lions Club International.
