  1. Prayers for Kevin’s family. Kevin was a very highly valued member of our work team here at the shipyard and his absence will be deep for us. I’m so sorry.

  2. Even though it was just a short time, I’ll always remember my electroplate shop family because of Kevin’s shenanigans, his illustrating the schedule calendar, him harassing Sayler and Ms. Angie, how he introduced me to Sweetart jellybeans, how he’d share his amazing leftover barbeque, and all of the funny stories about his kids, the dogs, and crazy stories about being a contractor. I want him to know I can still hear his country ass voice, his generosity, that I started liftin weights, and that I think about the folks from my time in the plate shop often. Big hug!

My prayers and condolences to the Westbrook family <3

  3. My condolences and prayers to the family. Kevin is going to missed terribly. I’m going to miss our conversations and the jokes. I’m sure I will see him again on the other side. R.I.P my friend.

  4. So sorry for the loss of Kevin. I know he will be greatly and lovingly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

  5. Condolences to the family. I have worked with Kevin over the years at the Navy Yard. He was a great guy to work with and was always cheerful. I believe that even though he has passed away, he is not gone. We will see our loved ones again in due time. I pray Kevin’s family and friends are comforted.

Kevin Ashly Westbrook

August 29, 2025

Kevin Ashly Westbrook, 54, of Moyock, NC, passed away on August 29, 2025. Born on October 20, 1970, to Richard and Katherine Westbrook, Kevin lived a life defined by service, adventure, laughter, and love — leaving behind countless memories and stories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Holly Westbrook; his beloved children, Kelsey, Kaitlin, and Hunter Westbrook; his cherished granddaughter, Lily; and his grandson, expected to arrive in January. He is also survived by his father, Richard Westbrook; his sister, Leigh Anne Westbrook Weinberger; his brother, Rick Westbrook; and his stepchildren, Rhena Hicks, Casey Doughty, and Timmy Doughty. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Futrell Westbrook. Kevin’s memory will also be lovingly held by his extended family and an incredible circle of friends who were lucky enough to know his heart and humor.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Futrell Westbrook.

A proud graduate of Washington High School, Kevin went on to serve overseas as a government contractor, working alongside bomb-detecting dogs – a role that reflected his courage and deep commitment to keeping others safe. Following his time overseas, Kevin also traveled to towns devastated by hurricanes, volunteering his time to cook meals and care for those impacted. He dedicated almost a decade of service to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where his work ethic and loyalty earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Outside of his professional life, Kevin found pure joy in life’s simplest pleasures — cruising on his Harley, driving his big truck, cooking for the people he loved, traveling with Holly, and spending time with his dogs. His pups were a constant source of happiness, and they brought him comfort, companionship, and unconditional love. Cooking, in particular, was one of Kevin’s greatest passions – a true expression of his generosity – and he rarely missed an opportunity to gather people around a table for a good meal and even better company.  He even cooked for his dogs every single Sunday.

Kevin’s personality was as big as his beard – bold, unforgettable, and always ready with a joke or a teasing remark. He had a rare gift for making people feel at ease and finding happiness in life’s smallest moments.

Kevin will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty, and his larger-than-life spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 211 W 2nd St, Washington, NC on Friday, September 5th, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring Kevin’s life, sharing memories, and celebrating the joy he brought to everyone around him. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Please leave a message of comfort for the family at gallopuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services was entrusted with arrangements.
