John Edward Boone
John Edward Boone, age 95, went to be with His Lord on Saturday, February 16, 2013.
The ninth of fourteen children, he was born in Jackson, NC (Northampton Co) to Joseph Colona and Josie Pully Boone. After working on the family farm, he moved to Norfolk Virginia at the age of 21 where he worked as a grocery clerk and in 1942, he became a civil servant for the US Government; working at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA for 30 years. He then worked for Norfolk Engraving before retiring, 25 years ago, to the Outer Banks of North Carolina; a place he dearly loved. His final 18 years were spent as a resident of Southern Shores, NC.
He was predeceased by his second wife, Joan Bouscaren Boone, (September, 20, 2012), his twelve siblings and a great granddaughter, Anna Marie May.
He is survived by daughter Judith Ann Hardison and her husband Henry of Virginia Beach Virginia and their three daughters. Cindy Smith and husband Sam of Harveyville, KS, Dawn Hardison, of Norfolk, VA and Rebecca Johnson, of Portsmouth Virginia. Also daughter Faye Coates and her husband Delma of Reva, VA and their son, Jay Price of Fredericksburg, VA. Also surviving is stepson Bill Whaley and his wife, Michele of Duluth, GA and their three children, Chad, Chantal and Cameron Whaley. In addition, he is survived by four great grandchildren; Bryan May, Keith Johnson, Madeline Price and Amayah Johnson, who loved him unconditionally and will miss him greatly. Also surviving is his one remaining sibling, Helen Lanier of Greensboro, NC.
He was a faithful member and deacon at Temple Baptist Church, Norfolk, VA until his retirement took him to the Outer Banks of NC where he and his wife Joan became active at Kitty Hawk Baptist Church. He again served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and was very involved in the Vacation Bible School Ministry. He was also a Mason.
Funeral will be held at Kitty Hawk Baptist Church, on the Outer Banks, NC on Thursday, February 21, 2013. Visitation at 1pm followed immediately by service at 2pm. Interment will be in the Southern Shores Cemetery.
