John C. Mason

Southern Shores- John C. Mason, 96, died at home with his family by his side early February 15, 2009.    He was the son of the late Edwin and Mamie Mason, the husband of the late Germaine Mason and father  of the late Claire Mason.  John was born May 2, 1912 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

John served his country honorably in the United States Navy during WW II.  After his military service, John earned his law degree from George Washington University, going on to serve as the General Council of the Federal Power Commission – what is today the Department of Energy. Following his long and illustrious career with the federal government, John was of counsel with the law firm of  Morgan Lewis and Bockus  where he represented the New York Power Authority until final retirement..

Along the way John Mason and his devoted wife Germaine raised six children.  After spending many years vacationing with the family on the Outer Banks, John and his wife retired to Southern Shores in 1980. John was a lifelong car enthusiast, owning over 47 vehicles during his life time.

Left to cherish the memory of John C. Mason, Sr. are two sons; John C. Mason, Jr of San Jose, California; Michael Mason of Warrenton, Virginia; three daughters; Morgan Mason of Southern Shores, Kathleen Mason of Falls Church, Virginia and Janice Falk of Ellicott City, Maryland; eight grandchildren and one great-grand child, a host of extended family members, and dear friends

Plans for a memorial service are pending.  Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted to assist the family with arrangements. Condolences to the family may be sent via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com.  In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Outer Banks Community Foundation or Outer Banks Hot Line has been requested.
