Janice K. Connors Kannry

Manteo, NC- Janice K. Connors Kannry born Jan. 27, 1951 in Steubenville, Ohio died Friday July 18, 2008 in Nags Head. She was a graduate of Jefferson Community College and a buyer for Carlisle’s in Steubenville before moving to the Outer Banks in 1978.  She was also the former owner of Gandalf’s Restaurant in Nags Head and manager of Monterey Cafe in Corolla. Most recently, Janice was employed by Coastal Rehab in Manteo.  Jan was instrumental in helping to organize the Battered Woman’s Shelter- Hotline- and the AIDS Task Force of the Outer Banks.

Janice volunteered her time to numerous organizations.  She never knew a stranger.  She opened her restaurant to “anyone who needed a place to go” for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Frances Connors of Steubenville, OH and a brother Robert Connors Jr.  She is survived by a sister Debbe (Mike) Vitello of Bloomingdale, OH, a niece Colleen (Preston) Shultz of Steubenville, OH, a nephew Michael (Ashley) Vitello of Hopedale, OH and her great nephews Connor and Kyle Shultz and Colton Rocco Vitello.  She also leaves behind her many “angels”, her dear friends in the Outer Banks and her faithful companion Miss Sealy, the cat.

In lieu of flowers or food please send memorial contributions to Interfaith Community Outreach of the Outer Banks, Hotline, and the Community Care Clinic of Dare County.   A memorial service will be held Friday July 25, from 2 O’clock to 5 O’clock in the afternoon at Poor Richards Sandwich Shop in Manteo.  Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted to serve the family.
