James R. Cochenour, Jr.

James R. Cochenour, Jr., 81, passed away on May 23, 2025 in Norfolk, VA. Jim was born June 14, 1943 in Sewickley, PA and raised mostly in Dravosburg, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents James R Cochenour and Anne (Stipe) Cochenour; his beloved wife Patricia R. Cochenour whom he wed in 1980; and his sister, Evelyn “Jane” Duche.
After high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy. He excelled in his military training which included work at the US Naval Training Center and the Navy Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, IL. Following his military service, Jim completed his Associates Degree from Montgomery Junior College, a BS degree from the University of Maryland, and his CPA degree from Maryland State College.
Jim found employment with Contel International- a leading supplier of optimum telecommunications and information systems. Hardworking and focused, Jim rose to International Division President serving the company for over 30 years largely in Saudi Arabia.
Outside of work, Jim loved visiting his hometown, Pittsburgh (especially Kennywood and Junction Pizza), and volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a marathon runner, and a member of the American Kennel Club through which he nurtured his fascination with Rhodesian Ridgebacks. His passion for this breed led Jim to pursue Ridgeback dog competitions in show rings around the world. Jim spent an early retirement between his home in Reston, VA, his Kitty Hawk beach house, and later his residence in Martins Point. He loved walking his dogs on Kitty Hawk beach, watching old war movies, and listening to his favorite songs while exercising.
Jim is survived by his loving nephew Dale Duche (Linda) and their children, Adam, Sabrina, and Tabitha of Pennsylvania; his two nieces, Cari Breitinger (Butch) and their children Greg, Kyle, and Brendan of Michigan; and Sheri DeMois (Glenn) and their children Justin and Jonathan of Texas as well as several other extended family members and friends.
The family is honoring Jim’s personal directives for burial with full military honors at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico in Triangle, VA. on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 10:30 am.
