Jacob W. Askew
Jacob W. Askew, 22, of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, passed away on November 13, 2025, following a tragic automobile accident in Parmer County, Texas.
After graduating from First Flight High School, Jacob enlisted in the United States Air Force. He completed the U.S. Air Force Security Forces Apprentice Course and was assigned to the 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base, serving proudly as part of Bravo Flight in the Security Forces. His dedication, professionalism, and quiet strength made a lasting impression on his commanders and fellow Airmen, all of whom deeply mourn the loss of such a promising young serviceman.
Born and raised in Kitty Hawk, Jacob grew up with a passion for soccer and played avidly throughout his high school career. Jacob also deeply valued time spent with his friends and embraced a life full of adventure. He loved skim boarding, fishing, and truly anything that allowed him to be on or near the water. His enthusiasm for the outdoors and for coastal life was a defining part of who he was. Jacob also treasured traveling with his family, creating memories filled with laughter, closeness, and exploration.
Jacob is survived by his loving parents, JP and Liz Askew; his devoted girlfriend, Bonnie; and his two beloved pugs, Ford and Flash. He is also survived by his grandmothers, Matilda Zuhars of Kitty Hawk, Suzan Koester of Kill Devil Hills, and Delores Stasienko-Askew of Hillsborough, NJ; as wells as many extended family members, including aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Bill Askew.
A viewing will be held at Gallop Funeral Services- Nags Head on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Kitty Hawk Methodist Church, with a graveside committal with full military honors immediately following at Austin Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Askew residence in Kitty Hawk following the burial.
.
Jacob’s life, though far too brief, was filled with purpose, service, and love. His strength of character and his generous spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him, and his memory will remain forever cherished. Suzan I am so very sorry for your loss. Praying for comfort and peace for you and your family.
Dear Askew Family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. Jacob was more than a friend to me—he was like a brother. I still remember biking around the neighborhood almost every day. We grew up side by side, and so many of the choices I made in life, including joining the military, were inspired by the example he set. He will always be a part of who I am. I will miss him more than I can express, but I will keep pushing forward because I know that’s what he would have wanted. His strength, his loyalty, and his kindness will stay with me always. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. If there is anything I can do, I’m here. With heartfelt sympathy, Levi Hawkins

Dear Family, we are deeply saddened by the loss of your beloved son, Jacob. His light illuminated many lives, and his memory will continue to shine. We remember when he was a child, and one day we suddenly saw him so tall, and we asked him, "What happened? Where did the little boy we knew go?" And he would laugh, always affectionate, respectful, well-mannered, and with a childlike smile, even though he was taller than us. He remained so special. We would gather to celebrate birthdays, Christmas, and countless other celebrations at the home of Jean Carlos and Gloria Murillo, our nephews, along with Junior, his son, and Gabriella House, in Greenville, NC, Junior and him, who were always great friends, even better friends. And Jacob was always there, seeing us and hugging us with such affection, and my mother, "Tata," too. He was such a special young man; he was family to us. We watched him grow from a child to a young man. I also remember when his proud mother and father told us that Jacob would be joining the Air Force—what joy and honor! No parent should have to experience the pain of losing a child. Sorry, we are very saddened. Our hearts are also grieving the tragic and irreparable loss of your beloved son Jacob. All our love and prayers are with you, and we pray that God's healing balm will fill you and that you will find strength in the love and support of all those around you. Jerry & Helena M Piggott

I remember Jacob as such a happy kid! I was lucky to have him in AVID for three years. He brought spirit and enthusiasm to the class and was well-loved by his peers and teachers alike. After we all moved up to high school and he was no longer in AVID, he made time to stop in and catch up regularly - such a nice kid! I am so sorry for his loved ones, and I will be praying for their strength and peace as they navigate life without him.
I will miss you I know you and your granddad are talking AIR FORCE So proud of all you stood for love Aunt Pat

Prayers, and thoughts. My heart just breaks for you Bonnie, for parents, family, and friends. You have raised such an admirable son. I got to know Jacob through Bonnie. My 6yrs old son, Siotaani, still does not know of Jacob’s homecoming. So often when he would come into town to see Bonnie, they would come and pick up my son and take him to play, or even sit at work with him, coloring, playing, because we lost my husband back in May. My son loves Jacob so much, and even this past weekend was asking me, and Bonnie for him. My prayers are with you all, and although, I know so well what is to come, with not having him here physically, I do know that one day we will all be re-united with Jacob, and all our loved ones that have gone before us. Thank you for sharing your son with all of us. I’m so blessed to say I was fortunate enough to know him.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💕💕

In Honor of Airman Askew Losing Askew does not feel real. He was not just someone in our brother flight in BMT. He was family. From the very first day he carried himself with a quiet strength, like he could see every challenge ahead of us but was still ready to walk straight through it. He always had that brave look in his eyes, the kind of look that made you stand taller and keep going even when everything felt heavy. Askew inspired all of us without ever trying to. He pushed through every obstacle with so much heart. When everyone else was worn out, he was still giving everything he had. When the days felt long and draining, he was the one who reminded us that we were not alone, that we were fighting through this together. His presence made our flight stronger. His courage made all of us better. What hurts the most is knowing that someone with a soul like his is gone too soon. But everything he stood for, the strength, the loyalty, the effort, the love he had for his brothers and sisters, continues to live in each of us who had the honor of serving beside him. Askew will always be part of our Air Force family. He will always be remembered. And every time we find strength when we think we have none left, every time we push past our limits, his spirit will be right there with us. Aim high Airman. We will carry your legacy from here. ♥️
I never had the privilege to meet Jacob but I only heard WONDERFUL words and praises by his grandmother Dolorss. She admired his smile, integrity, and kindness God has him now 🙏
JP and family, I cannot find the words to express my deepest condolences. I know Jacob was loved by many. You all are in our thoughts and we will continue to pray for peace and understanding for you all in this difficult time.

JP and Liz, I cannot fathom the loss you must be feeling. I want to share my absolute belief that Jacob knew the how well he affected the lives of those around him. I am sure that heaven is as proud to have him as you ever could have been. You raised a good man.
With tears streaming down my face and an aching heart, I want to give my most sincere condolences to the Askew family. These past few weeks have been incredibly difficult, especially for my daughter. When I say she is broken, I truly mean she is broken. She has lost the love of her life her one true love a man who showed her care, love, and compassion. Bonnie was so excited to start a new life with Jacob. She loved him truly. With a kind heart ♥️ Jacob didn’t deserve this. He was an exceptional person with a kind heart. He had no enemies only friends and family who loved and admired him. He was full of light, life, and goodness. He took such wonderful care of my daughter and my niece, and for that, I am forever grateful. The girls keep asking, why? Their beautiful boy. Every time he visited, they were so excited to cook for him, do activities, and simply spend time together. Bonnie was looking forward to beginning a new chapter with him in his beautiful hometown in North Carolina. During our FaceTime calls, he would tell us how excited he was to go home for the holidays and so was Bonnie. I will never stop praying for my daughter nor for the Askew family. Jacob will never be forgotten. We will forever keep him in our heart. 💔🙏
May the peace of of our Lord Jesus be with Jacob now and for eternity .. Thank you for serving our country ...

With a kind heart ♥️
Jacob didn’t deserve this.
Thank you for serving our country …
