Helen Louise Gauvreau
August 8, 1944 – January 18, 2025
Helen Louise Gauvreau, 80, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Laury Gauvreau, and her parents, Jesse Lee and Louise Lee.
Helen was born in the Bronx, New York, to Jesse and Louise Lee. She grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland, alongside her two brothers, Jesse Thomas Lee Jr. and Joseph William Lee. After graduating from high school, Helen began her career as an administrative assistant with the National Security Agency (NSA), where she met the love of her life, Frederick “Fred” John Gauvreau. They shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.
Helen and Fred built their life together in Montgomery County, Maryland, where Helen devoted herself to raising their four children: Charlene (Char) Louise Gauvreau, Loretta (Laury) Julia Gauvreau, Edward (Ed) Lee Gauvreau and Pamela (Pam) May Gauvreau Bass. Helen’s greatest joys were her faith, family, neighbors, and gardening.
After years as a stay-at-home mother, Helen returned to the workforce and spent 25 fulfilling years as a Media Assistant with Montgomery County Schools before retiring. In retirement, she and Fred built their dream home in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, a place they lovingly referred to as their “heaven on earth.”
Helen’s love and devotion extended beyond her husband and children to her six cherished grandchildren: Matthew Gauvreau (21), Julia Bass (20), Madeline Bass (18), Amelia Bass (15), Cassidy Gauvreau (15), and Adrin Bass (13). Her faith and family were always her guiding priorities, and she extended her care and attention to her extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country.
Helen is survived by her devoted husband, Fred Gauvreau of Point Harbor, North Carolina; daughter Char Gauvreau of Grandy, North Carolina; son Ed, his wife Maureen Gauvreau and their two children of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; Daughter Pam, her husband Blair Bass and their four children of Spotsylvania, Virginia; Brother Jesse and Rich Lee of Dallas, Texas; and Brother Joe and Ellen Lee of Toano, Virginia
Helen will be laid to rest at Darnestown Presbyterian Church Cemetery, beside her daughter Laury.
