Elizabeth Marge Corsa

Elizabeth Marge Corsa was born on February 29, 1952 in Westfield, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of professional golfer, John Marge and his wife Virginia, a flight attendant. As a child in Westfield, Elizabeth was passionate about ballet dancing and showed an early talent for visual art. After high school she worked in bookstores for many years and as a reporter for the Westfield Evening News, developing her artistic skills in her spare time. Elizabeth’s elder son, Joshua, was born on August 12, 1980, and her younger son, Zachary, on January 11, 1984.
After spending most of her life in western Massachusetts, Elizabeth relocated with her sons to North Carolina’s Outer Banks in 1995, eventually settling in a charming Kill Devil Hills cottage that she affectionately named ‘The Crooked Little House’. On the Outer Banks, she was able to focus full-time on her artistic career. Her works, which centered on the natural world she so loved and appreciated, blended classical watercolor technique with elements of collage and found media. Soon she would build a devoted stable of fans and long-term collectors. She would go on to earn widespread acclaim and numerous awards for her work throughout the rest of her life.
From a young age, Elizabeth was a passionate advocate for, and staunch defender of, the natural world, be it the woodland inhabitants of her childhood New England or the rich coastal menagerie she fell in love with on the Outer Banks. She ensured that the colorful characters that daily visited The Crooked Little House – hawks, opossums, raccoons, and more – stayed fat and contented, and spent much of her time caring for a series of treasured cat friends with special needs. In her later years she fell in love with teaching, passing along a lifetime of skills and experience to others who would benefit from that knowledge.
Always happiest wandering and sketching in nature, Elizabeth was a beloved fixture of her Outer Banks community, with a great sense of humor and a big, generous heart. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Joshua Corsa (44) and Zachary Corsa (41), daughters-in-law Lindsay Corsa and Denny Wilkerson Corsa, and granddaughter Virginia Corsa. She was 72 years old.
The family is honoring Elizabeth’s preference for the simplicity of cremation. Plans for a memorial celebration are currently pending and will be announced in the near future. Please check for service details and share expressions of sympathy with the Corsa family at gallopfuneralservices.com.
Condolences
Elizabeth always lifted my spirits whenever I saw her. She will be greatly missed. I am so sorry for your loss.
Josh, Zack and family - we are deeply saddened to learn of Elizabeth's passing and extend our heartfelt condolences. A bright and steady spirit amidst the Outer Banks Art Scene is extinguished, and we mourn the loss with many others in our community. Elizabeth set numerous examples - as a loving parent foremost, as a talented artist, as a entrepreneur, as an environmentalist, as a friend to many. While her absence will be deeply missed, her legacy will prevail and inspire many in the days to come.
I was deeply saddened reading about Elizabeth’s passing. The Outerbanks has truly lost one of its own. My prayers go out to her Family
My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Liz. We were in school together. She was a talent then. I admired her artistic talent and quiet demeanor as a classmate. I’m sorry that our paths didn’t have a chance to cross over the many years since I last saw Liz. Rest in Peace Liz.
Over the last dozen years of so, I've purchased about six pieces of your mother's artwork (some commissions, others from a gallery or her ETSY shop that I couldn't resist}. However, I had never met her until this past November at the Corolla Library Art Show. She was lovely to me and greeted me as if we had known each other forever! We shared a love of nature for sure, and I really enjoyed talking with her (and of course I left with another beautiful purchase!). Often I began my mornings checking her FB page to see her latest creation or one of her critter friends. I was so saddened to learn of her sudden passing, and my heart goes out to your family. I pray that the memories and loving relationship that you shared with your mom will bring you comfort and peace.
Liz was one of the nicest humans I had ever met. Almost every room on our house has her artwork in it. Hearing my sister Dawn had to have brain surgery, Liz signed a piece of art for her. Liz's passing really breaks my heart. At least I was fortunate enough to know her.
I was simply shocked to read of Elizabeth's death -- I've been a customer and long-distance friend, also a fellow creator (I'm a writer) for the past several years. I have loved her work and greatly enjoyed knowing her as well. A sweet and talented spirit. I wish I'd been able to watch her paint, too. I treasure her work that I own, especially a cocktail/wine menu from a restaurant with her decorations of fanciful sea creatures. I am so sorry for your loss, and the creative world's loss as well. with sympathy to you all.
I am so sorry to hear to Liz's passing. I myself have many of her beautiful n whimsical paintings. Every summer when I was on vacation, I would go to the Seadragon Gallery and acquire another. She will be greatly missed.
I never met Elizabeth. But I bought an Artist's proof painting she had done long ago. Of a cow jumping over the moon. I fell in love with her and her art. Her art always filled my heart. I bought many pieces for myself. Her art also fills the walls of my friends and family. Honestly, I feel like I knew her. When my son tragically died in a car accident. She sent me a beautiful piece of her work with a kind note that had her watercolors beautifully sketched all over the paper. She was also an example to me of kindness, taking a stand on serious issues, and expressing it through her artwork. Gun crisis in America . . . Elizabeth's artwork and her love of nature, she painted the state bird of each state and sent it to the State Governor's! Example to me that your stand on important issues can be expressed in a quiet, respectful, and meaningful manner. And be heard! I will miss her, I will miss her kind words to me. I have every trinket, note and card that she sent with her art, I will treasure them and remember her always. I loved her.
I sit at my desk and look at Undertoads hanging just above to try to keep calm in these turbulent times and thank Liz for being such a fabulous artist and friend. I can't believe she's gone but glad that I knew her and have a lot of her works.
So sorry to hear of Lis passing. I was a neighbor of the Marge family for many years in Westfield Ma. Lis was my Daughters babysitter. Lis was also a very good friend of my sisters Jayne Taylor an Brenda Taylor who all lived in the same neighborhood. Always so fond of Lis and I remember her love of animals as she and Jayne would walk the neighbors dog all the time. I knew how artistic she was by some of her childhood drawings. Lis also has a brother who is my brothers best friend. They live in Blandford Ma. Lis will always be remembered and missed.
