Edythe M. Mullagh

Edythe M. Mullagh of Grandy, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 3, 2025, just short of her 93rd birthday. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph Mullagh, her son Victor Winebarger, and grandchildren: David Brooks, Chris Powell, Shane Bozeman, and Shelly Austin Caudill.
Edythe was blessed with “perfect health” as she would tell you! She wasn’t on prescription drugs and had no illnesses. Her earthly body was just worn out and God took her home. She was the last surviving child of Roberta and Marion Maddox, the youngest girl of 11 children!
Edythe lived a full and exciting life. She loved the beach, so much so that she lived on the oceanfront at North Topsail Beach for over 20 years. She had an impressive collection of shark teeth and seashells from her nearly daily walks on the beach. She traveled extensively in the United States and briefly in Europe. She loved to eat good food, although not a cook herself; she loved her four daughters’ culinary skills instead.
She was a graduate of Brookville High School, a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church, and most importantly, a devoted servant to God. She loved The Lord with all her heart. She had a well-worn and marked up Bible with one of her favorite quotes being: “The Lord is my Shepherd, that’s all I need to know.” In her later years, she moved in with her daughter Marie, close to the beach of course, and enjoyed her leisure time by the pool or on the front porch with her little companion cat, “Gizzy.”
Edythe is survived by her children Sandra White, Debbie Bozeman (Steve), Diane Dodson (Thomas), and Marie Etter (Darl). Marie was her mother’s devoted caregiver. Edythe was “Nanny” to 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren! She proudly lived her title as the best grandmother, to those in the family by blood and to those united through Christ.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Albemarle Home Care & Hospice and the dedicated friends of the Grandy community for surrounding Edythe with care and compassion. Her service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to charities that involve beach preservation or cat welfare. Expressions of comfort may be shared with the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com.
