Donn E. Pokorny

July 20, 2013

Southern Shores and Fairfax, VA- On Saturday, 20 July 2013, Donn E. Pokorny of Fairfax, VA and a part-time resident of Southern Shores, NC died of a heart attack at his Southern Shores home. Donn retired from the CIA in early 2001 as a senior technical officer, spending many years serving overseas, and after the World Trade Center and Pentagon bombings he quickly returned to work as a contractor. He received a number of awards from the CIA, as well as a Presidential Letter of Commendation from 43rd president George W. Bush for exceptional achievement. Donn was also an accomplished lapidary, jeweler and a stamp and coin collector.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 38 years, Elizabeth (Beth) C. Pokorny, their daughters, Andrea Pokorny Hancock (Ryan) and Maria Pokorny Hoffman (Colin) and grandchildren Nathan Hancock and Kalina Hancock. Also surviving are Donn’s two nephews Brian Golden and Dan Golden. Donn was excited by the recent news from daughter Maria that she is expecting her first child. The Pokorny family is sad that her child will not have the opportunity to know Donn, who was a devoted father and grandfather.

A private memorial service will be held in Fairfax. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests you consider a contribution to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312, in memory of Donn’s long battle with diabetes.

Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements. Condolences to the family may be expressed via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices,com.
