Dolores “Sis” Pettway Battaglia
Dolores “Sis’ Pettway Battaglia, 81, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at her home in Grandy, NC. She was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. In January 1975, she married Tom Battaglia. In 1999 the couple moved south, to Grandy, NC.
Next to her family, Sis had a great love for animals, particularly, her cats. She has welcomed many strays into her life and has created a forever home for them. She loved music, dancing, sketching, and fishing. Sis was one great fisherman! She also enjoyed nature, whether it was gardening or the many peaceful walks on the beaches of the Outer Banks. She participated in marking the nests of the sea turtles when they came to shore to lay their eggs.
Along with her husband, Tom, Sis is survived by five children: Theresa Lawrence, Susan Robinson, Roseanne Buccheri, Joe Battaglia, and Rick Battaglia; ten grandchildren, Ashley, Monica, CJ, Abby, Alicia, Laura, Michael, Maria, Sophia, and Megan; one great-grandchild, Kaija, as well as many extended family members, friends, and neighbors.
The funeral service will be held at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Maple, NC Monday February 9, 2026 at 10 am. Father Alex Gonzalez will officiate. Committal and burial at Hampton Cemetery in Waterlily, NC will immediately follow the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Dolores’ honor to Alley Cat Allies, at www.alleycat.org. Please share expressions of sympathy with the family on-line at gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.

My deepest sympathies on the passing of such a good person, a sweet & kind friend, neighbor, wife & mother. Sis & my Maryland & Baltimore roots made my move here easier for me & we were kindred spirits in some ways. I enjoyed our lunches at Panera & Kill Devil Grill. Sis introduced me to Pea Island National Refuge. We enjoyed "Wine & a Movie" seeing "80 for Brady", talking on the phone & impromptu visits. And oh how she loved her cats!! I will miss you Sis! I already do. Thank you for being my friend. Hugs to Tom & the family.
We were very saddened by the news of Sis’s passing. Thinking of you all during this difficult time. Love, William and Kyle Albrecht and family
