Allen Wakeman Beasley

Colington- Allen Wakeman Beasley, loving husband and father, has died on June 27, 2013 in Moyock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Weightman and Carrie Beasley; and two sisters, Rose Liverman, and Ruby Tillett. Allen was born in Dare County May 3, 1927. He left school in his early teens to help stabilize the family business. It was during World War II that he served proudly as a Merchant Marine and in the United States Coast Guard. Afterwards, Allen served in the Merchant Marine. When he returned to Dare County, he became a heavy equipment operator.

Allen’s passion for fishing eventually lead him back to Little Colington Island where he settled down with the love of his life, Ida Mae, to raise their family and work the local waters as a dedicated commercial fisherman.

Surviving Allen Beasley is his wife of 60 years, Ida Mae of the Colington residence; four children Mae Lunden and husband Bob ( Colington ), Terry Beasley and wife Stephanie ( Colington ), Sonia Beasley Baum, and Jeff Beasley and wife Connie ( Kill Devil Hills) ,  five grand-children, Ryan Merrit of Pt. Pleasant, NJ, Chris Merritt of Little Colington Island (Kill Devil Hills), Allen Lee Baum also of Kill Devil Hills, Orrin Allen Beasley of Greenville, NC; and Dana Kottas of Little Colington Island (KDH). Surviving is one brother, Walter Troy Beasley of Kill Devil Hills. Also surviving are 7 great-grand-children, several nieces, nephews, and cousins; numerous extended family members and many cherished friends.

The family will receive friends at the residence and also at a visitation at the Gallop Funeral Services Chapel in Nags Head, Sunday June 30, 2013 from 5 to 7 pm. The funeral will be Monday July 1, 2013 at 1 PM at Colington United Methodist Church. Pastor Teresa Holloway will officiate. Burial at Hill Top Cemetery will be private.
