George W. Kobryn
George Walter Kobryn entered God’s care January 31, 2026 with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law by his side in Kill Devil Hills, NC. George was born in Czechoslovakia September 16,1944 while his parents and grandparents were making their escape from German occupied Ukraine. The family made it to America when he was five years old on a ship with many other European refugees. After arriving in New York City, the family’s citizenship was sponsored and they began their new life in America. George dearly loved this country which he proudly proclaimed to everyone.
Growing up in Chester Pennsylvania, George excelled in school. He attended college at PMC (now known as Widener University),and then went on to attend Penn State University. To support his widowed mother and elderly aunt, George left Penn State early and moved back to Chester, PA. There, he found employment with the Delaware County Planning committee at Media courthouse and also found his wife, Carol. After a two year courtship, they married.
In 2025 George and Carol celebrated 50 years of wonderful marriage. He loved the children that the union blessed them with. While missing his earthly presence, Carol is grateful to God for the 51 years of happy marriage she had with her wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Besides his wife, Carol; son, James Williams; and daughter-in-law Sally, his daughter Linda Horner (Mike) George will be missed by his five cherished grandchildren, Nicole Munro (Marcos), Kristyn Horner (Jorge), Natalie Reuter (Josh), Kristopher Horner (Kerry), Katlyn Horner (Zach); eight great-grandchildren Marcos Munro Jr, Gianna Munro, Jaxson Munro, Anthony Tripoli, Aden Ebner, Seamus Reuter, Emmett Reuter, and Waylon Reuter; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and co-workers; and his faithful grand-dog, Dakota.
The family extends special thanks to the entire staff of Adoration Hospice for their caring and support of Pop and our family. In keeping with his character, the family will have a simple funeral service at Gallop Funeral Chapel in Nags Head Saturday February 7, 2026 at 3 pm with a brief committal service and burial following at Southern Shores Cemetery. Other memorial plans for family and friends back home in Pennsylvania are pending at this time. Please share condolences with the family on-line at gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements
Condolences
We are so sorry for your loss. George was a kind and caring man. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family during this difficult time. With deepest sympathy, The (Paul) Munro family.
Jim & Sally, so sorry for your loss. You have my sincere sympathy.
Well pop you gave it the good fight like you did everything in life. Thanks for always being there for me and being the dad I never really had. I will miss your humor and that adventurous nature. Whenever I look around the Outer Banks it makes me sad that you never had the chance to see the beauty of this sand bar we call OBX. But I know you’re taking the grand tour now. Love you, miss you and until we meet again. Jim
My dear sweet Pop We miss you so much already but we know you are in heaven, I just want you to know what a privilege and honor it was caring for you these last two weeks. You made us laugh so many times and although there were tears I cherish every minute I spent with you. Fly high and know you will always and forever be in my heart. Love you so much Pop
So sorry for your loss Sally I know you will miss him a lit
Uncle George was someone who meant so much to our family. He had such a caring heart and a way of making people feel welcome and loved. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the memories we shared and the love he gave so freely. He brought warmth, laughter, and love into our lives, and his memory will forever remain in our hearts. We now have another guardian angle. Love and Miss you Diane
George were ally had some wonderful times together. You loved us and we loved you. Nancy remembers one of your first dates with Aunt Carol to the Phillies game! You both were so about the excited game because Steve Carlton was pitching! The Phillies won. Loved the way you and Uncle Joe used to run to our car to great us when we came to one of your family parties. One of the best moments I, Nancy, had was the look on your face when you ate the Chill I made for your birthday and your birthday cake. You really appreciated when people did things for you and Carol. You were well respected at work and in Collingdale Community Association. You were very productive and tried correct wrongs. You had a wonderful singing voice too. We love you and will miss your physical presence. You are with our Lord and I am sure you are truly happy and with no pain! Love Bruce & Nancy Paris.
