  14. I only knew Jim for his last few years as I was a volunteer who delivered meals on wheels to him on Mondays. Jim quickly became my favorite customer because of his friendly disposition. While he was struggling with his declining health due to ALS, he never once complained and always asked about my health and what was going on in my life. I will miss my weekly visits with Jim and say a prayer that he’s now at peace.

  16. We are deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Steese’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends.

  17. Jim was one of my dearest friends for many years. He was my employer for a good portion of them, but I never really thought of him like that, he was just family.
Jim was always there with moral support, no matter what the issues were, through the years.
He was a good ol’ boy to me, quiet in his own way, but at times, he could be a real jokester! I have many stories!!
He was a kind soul with a big heart & was very generous in whatever he was giving or doing.
In his long battle with his illness, I witnessed a remarkable strength as he fought every challenge with patient endurance & perseverance. And because of the severity of his situation, I took an opportunity to honor him face to face. I wanted him to know how blessed I was to have had this journey with him & was grateful for all that he deposited in my life.
I loved Jim like a brother and will miss my friend always.
My heart goes out to his family & to all his friends. I pray that God’s peace & comfort will surround you.

  18. I want to honor the best brother and friend in the world. He will be greatly missed. I love you to the nth degree. Thank you for always being there. Much love, your sister,Jean❤️❤️!!

  19. Dear Billie, so very sad to learn of Jim’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the children. Love, Karen and Scott Mitchell

  20. Jim was a special friend to me. We spent a lot of time together at the OBX gun club and going out to lunch. When my wife passed away 5 years ago, Jim was the first one to send flowers to the house. I will greatly miss him, he was a true friend.

  21. Jimmy will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was a fine individual with a special sense of humor, and it was always a pleasure to see him when I’d make my trips to the OBX to visit his sister, one of my oldest and best friends, and her husband. By

Gustav Eugene Steese, II

August 23, 2025

It’s with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Gustav “Jim” E. Steese, II. Jim, 72, passed away peacefully at his home Powells Point home on August 23, 2025.

Jim was born in Cumberland, MD to Gustav and Eunice Steese. He leaves behind his children, Logan Steese of Powells Point and Angela Buell (Matt) of Eden. He also leaves behind his sister, Jean Davidson (Ron) of Kill Devil Hills); and nieces, Melissa Wise and Michelle Rowles.

Jim attended Allegany High School and Allegany College. He was employed by Kelly Springfield Tire Company in Maryland prior to moving to The Outer Banks with the dream of opening an exclusive store in Duck. He successfully managed and enjoyed wonderful work associates and countless professional acquaintances and lasting friendships for over 35 years in business

Jim spent selfless years supporting his daughter and was active in her passion for Hunter Jumper Competition throughout Virginia. He also became “all in” with his son’s passion for racing and competing in Extreme Quad Racing across North Carolina. Jim was active at the Outer Banks Shooting Range and enjoyed competitions, activities and friendships

His annual hunting trips to Canada were always on his calendar and his trip to Alaska was the icing on the cake. Jim was a quiet man who silently supported his community and enjoyed his family and friends.

A memorial service is pending, however in lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to The VCU Health ALS clinic and research program at https://give.vcu.edu/campaigns/61958/donations/new. A special thank you to his VCU team, Albemarle Hospice and the Currituck Senior Center for their care and support.
Please leave a message of comfort at gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services was entrusted with arrangements.
